“WEST SIDE STORY” LEADS WITH 13 NOMINATIONS
“THE POWER OF DOG” FOLLOWS CLOSE WITH 12
NETFLIX DOMINATES WITH 30 TOTAL NOMINATIONS

(February 22, 2022) – The Latino Entertainment Journalists Association (LEJA) announced today the film nominees for the fourth annual Latino Entertainment Journalists Association Film Awards. The winners will be revealed via the LEJA social media channels on Sunday, March 6 beginning at 3:00 pm ET / 12:00 pm PT.
This year’s film nominees are led by 20th Century Studios “West Side Story” from iconic director Steven Spielberg, which earned an impressive 13 nominations including: best picture, best director, two best supporting actress nods, one for the legendary Rita Moreno and one for Ariana DeBose, two best supporting actor nods for David Alvarz and Mike Faist, best adapted screenplay, best ensemble casting, best production and set design, best cinematography, best costume design, best editing, and best sound design.
Lin-Manuel Miranda received the most individual nominations: best director, best voice or motion capture, three separate nominations in the best song category for his work on “Encanto.” Lin was also selected by the LEJA membership as the recipient of the Latino Activism Award. Past winners of that award include America Ferrera, Eva Longoria, Rosie Perez.
The Latino Entertainment Journalists Association has selected John Leguizamo to receive the 2022 Rita Moreno Lifetime Achievement Award. The Special Tony and Emmy winning actor, producer and comedian has been a tireless force in the Latino community for decades.
For the 2022 Latino breakout performer award, the membership selected Rachel Zegler. Her role as “Maria” in “West Side Story” cemented this young actress in a role with the highest of bars. Zegler knocked it out of the park. With the leading role in “Snow White” on the way, we can expect excellent work from this budding actress.
In the studio tally, Netflix leads with a total of 30 nominations across various categories, Warner Bros. received 18 nominations, 20th Century followed with 14 nominations, Walt Disney Studios had a total of 13 nominations,
