For Immediate Release:

June 1, 2025

The Latino Entertainment Journalists Association has opened up the application process for new members.

New member applications are now open and will remain open until June 20, 2025, at 5:00 PM EST.

In order to be considered for LEJA, the applicant must meet the following qualifications:

PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

1) Be a journalist working in the field of entertainment. This includes film and television journalists whose coverage is aired or read on a regular basis. Any and all applicants must have no less than 25 reviews, articles (this can include features and interviews), or aired segments per the calendar year.  For this year’s application process, all writings must have been published between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2024.

All writings submitted must have a minimum of 500 words. If submitting on-air television clips, YouTube, or other video media libraries, radio clips, or podcasts, the channel from which they are found must have a minimum of 1,000 subscribers. Additionally, each outlet must meet a circulation minimum as determined by the LEJA board and membership committee.

2) Applicants must have at least three (3) years working in entertainment news with at least one (1) of those years being with their CURRENT outlet on a consistent basis as defined in clause 1. The LEJA board can vote for exceptions in extenuating instances for freelancers.

3) Television/radio journalists must be at a station or inside a station group in the top 50 markets. They must be featured as an entertainment journalist or contributor and have maintained a frequency of coverage with consistent coverage amounting to 24 total for the year or bi-monthly for the calendar year.

4) Internet/podcast journalists must be featured on a website as either the founder or lead contributor (or equivalent) that is known throughout the industry.  These articles and reviews must be read by a large enough audience, as determined by the LEJA board, in order to qualify.
Traffic, social media, and reach will all be taken into account and/or may be requested for further review.

5) The membership application deadline is Friday, June 20, 2025, at 5 pm PST. The LEJA Board of Directors will be selecting new members for this calendar year. This can be increased or decreased by voting members for various circumstances. The new members will be announced by July 2025.

“Our organization, like the entertainment industry, has undergone unprecedented change. The Latino Entertainment Journalists Association remains committed to amplifying the work of our Latino community in Hollywood and the journalists who support them.” Toni Gonzales, LEJA President, stated. “Our membership boasts journalists from the most sought after entertainment trades and regional outlets and we are extremely proud of that. Adding to our organization with even more talented and committed Latino journalists is an honor for our association.
