For Immediate Release:
June 1, 2024
The Latino Entertainment Journalists Association announced the opening of the application process for new members for the film, television and podcast divisions of the organization.
New member applications are now open and will remain open until June 21, 2024, at 5:00 PM EST.
In order to be considered for LEJA, the applicant must meet the following qualifications:
1) Be a journalist working in the field of entertainment. This includes film and television journalists whose coverage is aired or read on a regular basis. Any and all applicants must have no less than 25 reviews, articles (this can include features and interviews), or aired segments per the calendar year. For this year’s application process, all writings must have been published between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2023.
All writings submitted must have a minimum of 500 words. If submitting on-air television clips, YouTube, or other video media libraries, radio clips, or podcasts, the applicant must categorize each submission accordingly. Each outlet must meet a circulation minimum as determined by the LEJA board and membership committee.
2) Applicants must have at least three (3) years working in entertainment news with at least one (1) of those years being with their CURRENT outlet on a consistent basis. The LEJA board can vote for exceptions in extenuating instances for freelancers.
3) Television/radio journalists must be at a station or inside a station group in the top 50 markets. They must be featured as an entertainment journalist or contributor and have maintained a frequency of coverage throughout the calendar year.
4) Internet/podcast journalists must be featured on a website as either the founder or lead contributor (or equivalent) that is known throughout the industry. These articles and reviews must be read by a large enough audience, as determined by the LEJA board, in order to qualify.
Traffic, social media, and reach will all be taken into account and/or may be requested for further review.
5) All members are charged yearly membership dues of $25.00 per year, starting in 2025 (next year).
6) The membership application deadline is Friday, June 21 at 5 pm PST. LEJA Board of Directors will be selecting new members for this calendar year. This can be increased or decreased by voting members for various circumstances. The new members will be announced by mid July 2024 on a rolling basis.
7) After you apply, share it with the world using our worldwide hashtag #SoyLEJA. This is NOT required and will increase or decrease your chances of acceptance. This is to encourage a united voice for all Latino journalists everywhere.
Good luck to all the applicants!
